Getting started

  • Place a mirror: tap any empty cell
  • Flip it: tap the same cell again
  • Remove it: tap once more
  • See what a target wants: tap the target itself

The rules

  • Light adds up where it lands
  • A target needs an exact set of colours
  • Walls swallow light
  • Beams pass through each other freely

Common questions

My target is lit up but the puzzle says it isn't solved.

A target wants an exact set of colours, so too much light fails it. A red target hit by red and blue is not a red target — it is a magenta one, and it stays dark. Look for a stray beam arriving that you did not intend.

Why can't I place another mirror?

You get exactly the number of mirrors the solution needs, and no more. The count is information: it tells you roughly what shape the answer is. If you are at the limit, undo or move one you have already placed — flipping a mirror you already own is free.

What do the stars mean?

Two things are scored. Mirrors: any you placed that light never touches. Taps: any that did not survive into your final board — placing something and removing it, or cycling past the orientation you wanted. The weaker of the two decides the rating, so a tidy board cannot rescue a lot of flailing, and vice versa.

What is the flawless streak?

Consecutive days solved at three stars. It breaks two ways: missing a day, and solving a day imperfectly. Your ordinary streak survives an imperfect solve — that one only asks that you showed up.

Can I replay today's puzzle?

Yes, as often as you like. Your first result is the one that is recorded and shared — replays are for enjoying the board, not for improving the score.

I am colourblind. Can I still play?

Yes. Turn on Colourblind assist in Settings and every emitter and target is labelled with its colour's letters, so nothing depends on telling hues apart.

The glowing light is too much.

Reduce glow in Settings gives thinner, flatter beams — easier on the eyes and on battery. Sound and haptics each have their own switch, and the game honours Reduce Motion if you have it on system-wide.

How do I get a daily reminder?

Settings → Remind me, then pick a time. Trichrome sends one notification a day, and none on a day you have already played.

I got a new phone and my streak is gone.

Progress is stored on your device and is not synced, so it does not follow you to a new phone. If you restored from an encrypted backup it should come with you; otherwise it starts fresh. Sync is something we would like to add.

Something is broken, or I have an idea.
